Permanent or Temporary: Which Works Best?

Restaurants typically have a large need for signs. Whether they need to promote new products, or direct people to the proper seating location, signs are very important to this type of business. But how can a restaurant owner decide which material to use for these signs?

There are many different options when it comes to selecting the type of material that will be used for a sign. Aluminum or Aluma-Lite signs are typically used when a more permanent solution is needed. Vinyl banners are used when a semi-permanent solution is required and vinyl lettering can be used for temporary needs.

When deciding what type of material is best for your sign, it is important to ask yourself a few questions.

How will the sign be used? If you need a sign that will be used outside, you will need to look at either aluminum or vinyl signs. These signs will hold up well to the elements and can provide you with years of use. Vinyl banners are not as durable in extremely windy areas, and this is an important point to consider.

If the sign will be used indoors, the options are more plentiful and the decision will then shift to the type of sign that is required. For example, a sign that will only be used for a brief period, to introduce a new product, would not need to be made of aluminum. However, if a sign will be used to ask customers to wait before being seated, a small aluminum sign would work very well.

What types of materials are already in use? If your location already uses several aluminum signs, a vinyl banner may stick out. If you are striving for unity among your sign materials, it is a good idea to stick with the material you are already using.

Which material looks best for the intended use? Vinyl banners are very attractive and provide several different color and design options. If you need a sign that is vibrant, this type of material will work best.

Informational signs are typically not vibrantly colored, particularly if they are used to give directions. In this case, an aluminum sign will work quite well and give a polished appearance to your sign.

How do you plan to install your sign? If your options are limited as to how you will display your sign, this will affect your choice of materials. If you do not have a place to hang a large banner, a smaller sign that can be installed using posts may be a better solution. If you do not have a location that will support the permanent installation of a sign, a vinyl banner can easily replace a more permanent solution.

By carefully considering your options, you will be able to select the type of material that will work best for your company and will still provide you with the amount of use you would expect from a quality sign.
